2025 NBA Playoffs: The Third-Round Picks and Analysis

Eastern Conference

(4) Pacers vs. (3) Knicks

Prediction: Pacers in 6

Why? The Pacers play fast and with confidence, in the best way. They rank top 2 in the NBA in points per game (117.7) and 1st in assists per game (29.3) because of their constant ball movement and their unselfish play style.

Tyrese Haliburton is the core of the offense, averaging 9.2 assists and always controlling the flow of the game with his vision and the phenomenal IQ he has.

The Knicks are led by Jalen Brunson (26.0 PPG in the regular season but averaging 29.9 PPG in the playoffs) he brings a certain toughness and clutch shot-making to help his team win crucial games. Although Indiana’s attack while transitioning and their spacing will wear them down in the long run.

If the Pacers’ shooter can stay hot for the majority of the series and avoid foul trouble on both ends, they’ll destroy New York’s slower pace.

Key Stat: The Pacers shoot 35.8% from three, ranked top 5 in the NBA, this is especially crucial when Haliburton draws defenders in.

Western Conference

(1) Thunder vs. (6) Timberwolves

    Prediction: Thunder in 5

Why? OKC is one of the deepest, youngest, and most balanced teams in the league. They finished #1 in the fierce Western Conference behind their MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s 32.7 PPG.

Chet Holmgren provides insane rim protection (2.2 BPG) and spacing on the floor, while Jalen Williams adds pivotal scoring and physicality on the wing.

Minnesota has a top-3 defense supported by Rudy Gobert and Jaden McDaniels, with Anthony Edwards averaging 27.6 PPG. But their transition from offense to defense can bring them down, especially under pressure.

OKC’s speed, perimeter shooting (three-point shots), and their exceptional ability to force turnovers will cause too many problems for Minnesota. You should expect OKC to take early control in the series and finish the job at home in game 5.

Key Stat: The Thunder are #1 in the league in steals and forced turnovers, and also led the NBA in points off those turnovers. This is a perfect counter to Minnesota’s slower offense
